Carolyn S. Herley


CAROLYN S. HERLEY, 93, of Odin, IL died July 9, 2019 at the Odin Health Care Center.

Born July 20, 1925 in Merriam, Kansas, she was the daughter of James and Elsie (Surface) Campbell.

Of strong faith, Carolyn was a member of the St. Theresa of Avila Catholic Church in Salem. She served 25 years as a Girl Scout leader. She always worked in food services, and will be remembered working at Hardee's in Salem, Denny's and the Little Egypt Pancake House, formerly located in Salem. At her retirement, she had worked 79 years as a waitress.

She married David F. Herley in 1949, and they later divorced.

Surviving are her children, David F. Herley, Jr. of Odin, James Herley of Carbondale, IL, Mark (Jean Ann) Herley of Xenia, IL, Elizabeth Triem of Blanchardville, WI, and Theresa (Bill) Linder of Iuka, IL, along with 17 grandchildren, and 31 great grandchildren.

She is also survived by her sister, Roberta (Eldon) Weaver of Hutchinson, KS.

In addition to her parents and former husband, she is preceded in death by sons Patrick Herley and Danny Herley.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday at the St. Theresa of Avila Catholic Church in Salem with Fr. Michael Hussey, OMI officiating. Burial will follow at the Alma Cemetery.

A Rosary will be spoken at 5:30 p.m. Friday evening, followed by visitation from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., at the Rankin Funeral Home in Salem.

The family suggest masses be made to St. Theresa of Avila Catholic Church for those wishing to make a donations in Carolyn's memory, and left with the Rankin Funeral Home, entrusted with the family's care.
